West Bridgewater 2004
Equal Exchange, Inc. (EEI) was founded in 1986 to establish equitable trade relationships between peasant farmers and U.S. consumers. Bypassing the middleman, EEI buys green coffee beans directly from farmers’ cooperatives and imports the coffee to the United States. The company sells more than 40 varieties of specialty coffee in bulk and packaged form along with a smaller number of teas and cocoa. EEI is a worker cooperative, with all voting stock owned by the employees.
The Company is buying property in West Bridgewater for office and warehouse space and for roasting and packaging of its coffee. PCI’s loan provides for Equal Exchange’s move and expansion, solidifying their operation and providing for future growth and additional jobs for Massachusetts.
PCI Loan Amount: $1,000,000
